1. Objective of Experiment
Due to the large number of heat exchanger shapes and conditions, the thickness of the thermal boundary layer would need to be determined in each case. However, by means of the application of the similitude theory a dimensionless number, the Nusselt number, can be developed that takes into account the thermodynamic and fluid mechanic related conditions. The objective of this experiment is to obtain a Nusselt Number and the convective heat transfer coefficient by simple experiments.
2. Basic Theory of Experiment

In the simplest of terms, the discipline of heat transfer is concerned with only two things: temperature, and the flow of heat. Temperature represents the amount of thermal energy available, whereas heat flow represents the movement of thermal energy from place to place.
